Treat yourself to a nature trip to Puglia, because Italy's “Heel of the Boot” is a treasure trove of unique biodiversity. Just think that the ancient beech forests of the Foresta Umbra, in the Gargano National Park, represent one of the few refuges in Italy for the Mezzanine Spotted Woodpecker. Although the sea is the real star, surrounding much of the region, it can offer us unique sights, from visiting picturesque places perched on the 'Adriatic, to breathtaking walks along coastal paths. The marine protected area of Torre Guaceto, is considered an international hotspot for birdwatching.
The Margherita di Savoia's Salt Pans are located in the province of Bari, the environments of the Salt Pans are an important oasis for migratory, nesting and wintering birds. In addition to flamingos, there are black-winged stilts, oystercatchers, rose and common gulls, warbler, little piro piro, pantana, avocet.
My passion fueled my curiosity and together with determination and respect for nature, I managed to become one of the first women to practice birdwatching professionally. I strongly believe in enhancing natural environments and I know how nature is everywhere around us, we just need to train our senses to be able to recognize it better. Would you like to go on a nature discovery trip with me?
Birdstories will be your safe space: diversity and inclusion are celebrated and no form of discrimination will ever be accepted or tolerated
Each itinerary can be customised to be accessible for everybody: this allows anyone to participate and enjoy the joy of a birding and a nature experience.
I personally know the itineraries, I propose and I create them to pass on all my love for the region, promoting places and people who care about the environment.
Too many words would be needed to describe Apulia and its natural wonders, the only thing to do is to set out and visit, taking binoculars and camera with you. Let's go to the sea to observe sea cetaceans and pelagic birds, among the steppe and arid environments of the Alta Murgia to look for crickets, among the ancient beech forests of the Gargano to see the middled woodpecker, look out among the rocky coasts in search of the Corsican seagull, the wild pigeon, and the peregrine falcon. Not forgetting the Margherita di Savoia's Salt Pans, the largest in Europe, and the wetlands of the Ionian and Adriatic coasts, a wealth of environments and landscapes hard to find!
